An Introduction to Window Treatments

The window treatment not only provides with the aesthetic needs of a room it also serves essential functions like procuring privacy and energy efficiency. Some of us are utterly ignoramus about the basics of a Window treatment. To decorate windows is as essential as decorating the other elements in the room.
The constituents of a window treatment are described briefly as below
Curtains: the most popular and widely known window treatments, these are available in different colors and fabrics. Curtains block the dust and light from outside entering into our rooms. The other accessories for curtains are rods and curtain rings that are used to hang curtains from the window frame.
Drapes: these are similar to the curtains but made up of heavy fabric such as silk, damasks and suede. They are used in formal rooms to maintain an elegant look.
Sheers: sheers are used for beautifying purposes as they do not provide much privacy and blockage. Fabrics used in the Sheers include net and light weighted linens and cotton
Blinds: hard material such as wood, metal and vinyl are used to make blinds. They consist of slats and are popular for being used in bedrooms and washrooms as they provide good privacy
Shades: they work by pulling up strings controlling their opening and closing. A wide availability of materials and design make them popular over the blinds
Valances: these are used as decorative augmentation with the curtains and drapes. They can be of the same material as used in curtains or different fabric
